I am a relaxed and easy going photographer with plenty of ideas. Based in Surrey, I shoot part time as my full time job pays the bills. I am experienced behind the lens having been seriously into photography for years and am always happy to practice lighting set ups and try new things. Some of my images have been published in corporate publications and on the covers of books. My subjects include some celebrities including Buzz Aldrin and Andy Green.
I will do trade work, and paid work depending on the shoot.
My photography interests are wide ranging, from wildlife, to landscape and portraits. In portraiture my interests include pregnancy, tasteful nude, travel and reportage in both studio and on location. I am not keen on blood and guts shoots, tying people up or depicting people in pain. I also print my own photographs using some alternative processes, including Cyanotype and Platinum/Palladium. Sometimes my kit includes an instant camera, or some old fashioned classic cameras as well as my digital kit.
I am always respectful of people’s levels and requirements during a shoot, as long as I know what they are. I generally like to have fun, generate a bit of a rapport and get the best out all involved.
You are always welcome to bring a friend to a shoot. You will find me respectful, interested and happy to collaborate with your own ideas as well as mine. I treat models as I would wish to be treated myself - biscuits are usually provided ;-)
Some thoughts:
Re-touching and Naming images
I generally do not do a massive amount of retouching of my photographs. I want to depict people as they are, rather than with some strange sense of “beauty”. Generally temporary things like acne or bruises will be edited, but skin texture will remain untouched. I like people as they are and often the “imperfect” shows the beauty, rather than having a bland face with no character. To that end frequency separation or similar are not usually part of my toolkit as I think they make people look different to who they are. I do like playing with contrast, levels, colours etc and making monochrome images too.
I really hate naming my images - so they are usually just the name of the model, place, or animal in the image. Occasionally if there is a word or number in the image that will be the name. For me, adding a name does nothing and feels a bit pretentious.
Chaperones and Safety
You are welcome to bring someone to the shoot. I do prefer to generate a rapport with my collaborators, and someone else in the mix can often spoil that. Your safety is important, but if you do bring someone, please make sure they are not a distraction. With safety in mind, I will shoot in places that could be considered dangerous, like abandoned buildings for instance, but always make sure we do not take excessive risk – if you are unhappy, you won’t be forced to do something you think is dangerous.
Lateness/No-show
Please try to avoid being late or cancelling at short notice – thank you. -
