I'm Kumar, a filmmaker and photographer in Berlin, with 15 years of experience working behind the camera. I was previously based in San Francisco, where I studied filmmaking. I have directed short films and documentaries, and also worked in a big feature film production in India.

Motivation:
I like to tell stories about people, create characters, and portray emotions through them. While my bigger passion lies in directing films, I also enjoy pursuing photography. In the act of narration, there is lesser exposition in photography and more scope for abstractness and subtext, compared to making films. That's one of the challenges I relish while working as a photographer, to express art with one frame instead of 24 of them.

I focus on the human experience, in its raw and unexpressed form. I like to portray vulnerability and embrace imperfections through my work. I believe the beauty of a shot lies in the extent to which an emotion or a mood is depicted with authenticity, not in the grandeur of the location or the finesse in the makeup or styling of the model. Having said that, I like to be challenged and I'm always open to feedback and criticism.

P.S. : I don't post images here regularly, nor on Instagram these days. My portfolio speaks for itself. But I continue to shoot when I find time, and I try to make time/space to work with visiting artists and models as well.
