“It’s so cold down here”, she whispered, leaning against the cold wall behind her. The pit she had fallen into was dark and endlessly deep. If the wall didn’t scrape the bare skin of her back and her feet didn’t feel the uncomfortably damp ground, she would have thought that she was still falling through the blackness. She couldn’t remember the crash. The fall had been long and quiet and at once, she had been lying at the bottom of the abyss.
“What is going to happen to me now?” she whispered into the darkness. Even though no obvious dangers seemed to lure in the dark, the unmerciful nothingness was frightening in its finality. “It’s unclear”, the Second Face answered. She exhaled calmly. The Faces were still here, at least. “They are still deciding”, the Third Face added. “Deciding on what?” she dared to ask. “On where you will go”, the Second Face responded, and the Third Face added once again “Down or up, or as your world says, Hell or Heaven”. Relief flooded her body, she wasn’t going to stay here, this was not the end, even if the thought of a real hell was debilitating. As always, the Faces read her thoughts and said: “They are still deciding.”
The perspective of leaving this place gave her the strength to stand up. She wanted to be ready, when they would come and get her. Standing on her feet encouraged her to take small steps along the wall, even though she couldn’t see anything. “Who are they?” she asked. This time, the Faces took their time to answer. “They are you”, the Second Face replied lastly. She stopped in her tracks. “What do you mean, they are me?” she whispered warily. “They are all of you. You from yesterday, you from two years ago, every you that has ever existed” the Third Face tried to explain further, when the Second Face interrupted it: “It’s done. They are coming.”
