„I can’t“, she screamed. The abyss in front of her extended to endless darkness, not a single particle of light seemed to have lost its way down there. She stood on the edge, the cold stone wall right behind her left only few inches for her to stand on with shivering legs. “Please, I want to go back, I can’t go any further, there is nowhere to go” she started pleading.
“You know the rules”, the Second Face said. “You must go further, there is no way back”. She laughed hysterically: “But there is no way further, don’t you see it? There is no path, there is nothing! If I take one more step, I’m going to fall!”
“Maybe, maybe not”, the Third Face said. “You must go forward. You are not allowed to stay.” She inhaled sharply, trying to force back the tears. “Please, is there no other way out? I don’t want to fall, I don’t want it to end!” “You have to go further”, the Faces replied once again, as always, there was no sympathy in their voices. “If your path is supposed to end here, you will fall. If not, there will be a passage”, the Second Face added. Mercilessly, the wall pushed her forward.
“But I can’t see any!” she cried. “It’s over, isn’t it?” She had to stand on her toes, the space in front of the abyss was getting smaller and smaller. “Maybe, maybe not”, the Third Face said. “Sometimes, you have to wander in the dark.”
Her desperate laugh preceded across the abyss, when she took a step forward.
