Something in her eyes looking back at her in the hallway mirror made her pause for a moment. She hadn’t intended to take a break and worry about mundane things like her reflection, there was too much on the to-do list and she was rushing through the rooms, working through the day. But something seemed odd now. She drew closer to the mirror, everything around her had become so quiet that she could hear the blood rushing in her ears.
Dust particles glittered in the cautious winter sunlight. A cold shiver was creeping up her spine, while she tried to withstand her reflection in the mirror. It was her face, she knew every line of it, every detail. She locked in with her eyes once more, trying to catch evidence for the eerie feeling that the person in the mirror was something else, someone else. She stood there for several minutes, not daring to blink, but nothing happened. Finally, a slamming car door brought her back to the present. Her eyes broke contact and her mind let go of her suspicious feelings.
She turned her head and proceeded to continue with her day, rushing into the kitchen to prepare coffee for her homecoming husband, not noticing that her reflection was still lingering behind the glass, just a second too long, just a blink of an eye.
