The lantern was shining delightfully this evening. Its core was as bright as the sun, promising everlasting warmth, and its edge was a gleaming welcome, like an invitation to a dazzling celebration. Dust was dancing around the light to unheard songs and with all its being, the moth wished to join. It had been lurking in the shadows of the laurel hedge like a secret admirer for weeks, watching the lantern light up every evening. Never had it seen anything as beautiful as the dance of dust flakes in the golden light corona. They were waiting for the moth.
But the moth had been here for a while, it had seen things. Other moths, friends and neighbours had partaken in this wonderous dance before, and they had paid for it with their lives. It was a deadly feast if one came too close to the light. But the light was irresistible, and the moth had stayed in the shadows for so long. It would just dance on the outer rim and never fly too close to the lantern.
The moth took a bow to the dancing flakes, and they greeted it with a frivolous dance interlude. The lantern was a glowing orb with a fatal force of gravity. Everything within the moth yearned to finally embrace the light. It decided to fly just a little bit closer and was rewarded with a supernova of glittering particles and flakes. Sometimes, the risk was worth it. With a happy heart, the moth soared towards the light, not even noticing that the dancing flakes were its own wings, giving a glittering farewell.
