She had to get back, had to regain control over herself. Her body was aching, it was getting harder and harder to keep moving forward. Sweat ran down her lowered face, dripping on the floor. Trembling with exhaustion, her fingers smudged the black liquid on the floor. It had a tar-like consistency, just like every liquid here. Even the air was saturated with condensed desperation, dark and viscous. Black sweat, black tears, everything was dark. She tried to get some air, but breathing was hard labor down here. Her body was burning, her lungs refusing to process the solid air. Whatever was thickening the air so unbearably, she could feel it lingering on her skin, clinging in her hair, dripping from her eyes. She could taste it in her mouth, creeping through her circulation, slowing her heart down.
She had made a mistake, a big mistake, none of this should have happened. She shouldn’t have come here, should have left the black door closed. But the place behind it was wicked and tempting, just close enough to the abyss. Back then, she just had wanted to answer the void’s call, back then, the free fall seemed easier to handle than hanging on. But it was a treacherous land with mean creatures and crimson steams that blurred the senses. She dragged on, foot for foot, spitting out black fume, hauling herself forward. She would get back somehow. Someday.
