Location: Amersfoort, The Netherlands (2010). Fifty years before this nostalgia portrait was taken, a schoolboy was fascinated by sightings of lovely girls and beautiful women wearing prescription cat eye glasses in the streets of his native Amsterdam. It struck him that one category was quite shy when he looked at them. There was something unusual about their glasses - a lens inside of a lens. Being a gentleman even then, the boy chose to catch just a glimpse of these girls and women in special glasses. There were no contact lenses in those days, let alone lasik, so extremely shortsighted ladies had no alternative for their myodisc glasses. The boy later decided to become an optician but his father was against it. Instead, the young student started collecting old glasses at the Amsterdam flea market ("Waterlooplein"). One of his first finds was the pair of myodisc glasses shown here by an experienced art model called Lettie.
